BARCELONA legend Xavi has labelled Dani Alves as the “best right back in the world” as he closes in on a potential move to Manchester City.

Alves has recently left Juventus by mutual consent after spending just a single season in Serie A, with a potential reunion with Pep Guardiola in the offing.

Xavi believes the Brazilian star still has plenty of years left playing at the highest level of football, and has declared Alves and the Citizens boss have a great relationship.

He told reporters: “Age is not everything. For me, he’s still the best right-back in the world.

“Barcelona missed him this season – and he’s just had an incredible season with Juventus.

“He is a good friend, I know how hard he works, I know how well he looks after himself.

“He’s in great condition and can play at the top level for some more years yet.”

He added: “You’re not just getting a great player – you’re also getting great experience.

“He’s won many league titles across Europe, Champions League titles and has played in all the big games with Brazil.

“He’s a big character and he’s very important in the locker room. He has a great relationship with Pep (Guardiola) – there’s a lot of mutual respect – they had a lot of success together at Barcelona.”

The former Sevilla defender has also been linked with Premier League champions Chelsea, but is reportedly winning to earn £1.7million-a-year less to join City.

Alves’ international team-mate Gabriel Jesus has urged him to join him in England at the Etihad Stadium and snub interest from the Blues.
