‘Womb raider’s’ twisted words to boyfriend after they ‘kidnapped pregnant woman and cut unborn baby out of her’

A MAN charged over the “womb raider” death of a heavily-pregnant woman claimed he found his girlfriend cleaning up blood in their flat before she handed him a newborn baby girl.

The body of Savanna Greywind – who was eight months pregnant when she went missing – was found wrapped in plastic after being dumped in the Red River near Fargo in North Dakota.

The 22-year-old disappeared on August 19 after heading off to visit her next-door neighbour Brooke Lynn Crews for a dress fitting.

Crews claimed Savanna came back two days later at 3.30 a.m. and gave her the baby girl.

She told police that she invited over Savanna, who lived downstairs from her, on August 19 and taught her how to self-induce birth by breaking her water.

But Hoehn told authorities that he returned home that day to find Crews cleaning up blood in the bathroom.

Hoehn claimed Crews showed him the newborn and said: “This is our baby. This is our family.”

Crews eventually confessed to police to trying to get the newborn from Savanna.

“Crews admitted she had taken advantage of Savanna Greywind in an attempt to obtain her child and possibly keep the child as her own,” court documents said.

On Thursday, authorities found the newborn, who was in good health, with Crews while executing a search warrant at the North Fargo apartment.

Crews and Hoehn were taken into custody and charged with conspiracy to commit kidnapping and giving false information to police.

They were both charged over the death on Monday after the body was found.

He said he took garbage bags containing bloody shoes and towels and disposed of them away from the apartment complex, according to court documents filed on Monday.

It is a different version to what his girlfriend claimed happened.

Crews had initially told police that Savanna gave up her baby before admitting to taking advantage of the woman in an attempt to get her baby.

“Crews admitted she had taken advantage of Savanna in an attempt to obtain her child and possibly keep the child as her own,” the documents read.

“Savanna was a victim of a cruel and vicious act of depravity,” said Fargo Police Chief David Todd.

“Our sincere condolences and thoughts and prayers go out to the Greywind family as they suffer through this horrible loss.

“I’ll tell you our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of this young lady.”

The suspects were arrested when a two-day-old baby was found in their apartment.

Residents in the small town have accused the couple of being “womb raiders” who forcibly took her baby, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.

The baby is being taken for DNA testing to prove whether it is Savanna’s child.

Writing on Facebook, the Fargo Police Department said: “Over the last several days, we have devoted all of our investigative resources to complete the numerous investigative tasks associated with a missing person’s case.

“Brooke Crews was home during the execution of the search warrant. A newborn infant was also present in the apartment.

“The infant was alive and was immediately taken to a medical facility. Our investigation thus far indicates the probability that this is Savanna Greywind’s child.

Woman convicted of cutting baby from stranger's womb

“William Henry Hoehn and Brooke Lynn Crews were both arrested and charged with class A Felony Conspiracy to Commit Kidnapping.”

Police are investigating a number of scenarios, including whether the child was removed from her womb.

A cause of death has not been established into the tragic death and a post mortem will be carried out.
