Hammers boss Slaven Bilic has moved swiftly to fend off interest from Everton to secure the future of one of the club’s best players until 2022.

Obiang, 25, missed the end of last season after undergoing ankle surgery.

However, he is expected to be fit for the start of the new Premier League campaign which kicks off at Manchester United.

He is seen as a key figure for the future of West Ham.

And he follows popular winger Michail Antonio in signing a lengthy new contract since the end of the season in May.

Bilic is yet to bring in any new players from outside.

But the Croat has made getting a striker his top priority.

A move for Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud is in the balance with Everton also keen but the Frenchman has indicated he would be happy to stay in London if he leaves The Gunners.

Reports on Thursday also claimed the Hammers are leading the race to sign Burnley’s Andre Gray.

The 26-year-old only has a year left on his deal at Turf Moor and has rejected a new contract.

Ronald Koeman’s Toffees are also monitoring that situation along with Newcastle.

West Ham have also been linked with a deal for former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez.
