Volta Region records highest unemployment rate in Ghana

voltaemployedThe National Employment Report that was launched in April, 2016 revealed that 240,000 jobs were created between 2012 to 2014.

The three northern regions and the Volta Region have been identified as the regions with the highest unemployment rates in Ghana.

This is according to analysis by the Ghana Statistical Service on job creation in the country.

The Greater Accra Region recorded the highest number of skilled and unskilled jobs created, while the Northern, Upper East, Upper West and the Volta Regions recorded the lowest number of jobs created.

While the Volta Region topped the chart of most jobs created in the Agricultural sector, it was not enough to take it out of the regions with the highest unemployment rate.

The least number of industrial sector skilled jobs were created in the Upper West Region, while the Greater Region added a total of 420 new unskilled jobs.

The report added that the level of unskilled jobs in the services sector made up 5/4 of the total industrial jobs created in the period, while agriculture created more formal jobs than informal jobs.
