Veteran journalist and Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr.has underscored the importance of vetting ministers-designate appointed by the president.

According to him, it gives citizens the opportunity to know how capable the appointees can perform when given the position.

Kwesi Pratt’s comments come after some people argued that it is a waste of time and money for the appointees to be vetted.

They argue that, the number of hours being spend by members of the Appointment Committee in Parliament can be used more productively to move Ghana forward.

But Kwesi Pratt maintained that, it is very important to assure the citizens that they are fully capable to perform the functions required of them to move the country forward.

“None of the minister designates has gone beyond three hours of vetting apart from Osafo Marfo. Vetting time is never time wasted. Comparing to other countries, there are some candidates who go for one week vetting. We have the right to know if they can really do the work…,” he said.

What are we in the rush for? Do we want to know if the people can do the work or we are thinking about time…? He quizzed
