Koforidua (E/R) July
07, GNA – An appeal has been made to the government to use part of the Zongo
Development Fund to establish an Islamic College of Education.

The Eastern Regional
Manager of the Islamic Education Unit, Mr. Yussif Osman, said this was necessary
to help train more professional teachers to teach in the Islamic schools.

Many of these
schools, he said, had been struggling to get teachers to teach Islamic
subjects.

He made the appeal
at a consultative meeting held by the Minister for Inner City and Zongo
Development, Mr. Boniface Abubakar Saddique, with chiefs and opinion leaders at
the Koforidua Zongo.

The Minister was
there as part of his tour of the Zongo communities to assess the development
needs of the people in these areas.

Mr. Osman also
highlighted the need to build more Islamic Senior High Schools (SHS) in the
region.

The Minister gave
the assurance that the Fund would be efficiently applied to tackle the
development needs of the people and transform the living conditions in the
communities.

He said they were
going to focus priority on infrastructure, sanitation, economic empowerment,
social development, security and crime reduction.

Mr. Saddique
indicated that each Zongo community had their peculiar problems which directly
affected the people and said this would be taken into consideration when
designing projects under the fund.
