USA beats Ghana 2:1 in friendlies

Ghana’s Senior National team, Black Stars were beaten 2:1 by United States of America in a friendly match on Saturday played in Connecticut in USA.

Coach Kwesi Appiah made five changes to the side which lost to Mexico earlier in the week with Rashid Sumaila, Jerry Akaminko, Mohammed Abu, David Accam and Asamoah Gyan starting the game in place of Harrison Afful, Jonathan Mensah, Isaac Sackey, Thomas Agyapong and Majeed Waris respectively.

The Black Stars paid for their carelessness in possession after Frank Acheampong had lost the ball in his own half allowing debutant Dom Dwyer to score with an acrobatic finish.

Ghana were awarded a penalty for a foul on Acheampong almost on half time but Captain Asamoah Gyan missed the penalty kickback to end the half 1-0.

The Americans doubled the lead immediately after halftime with Kellyn Acosta drilling a free kick under the Ghana wall to give USA a real cushion.

Gyan made amends after his poorly taken penalty with an expertly converted free-kick which was his 51st goal for Ghana.
