Uganda Press Photo Award Competition Scholarship Positions 2017 2018

The 2017 Uganda Press Photo Award Competition is Open for Submissions!

The Uganda Press Photo Award invites all professional & non- professional Ugandan photojournalists and photographers to participate in the 6th annual photo contest. With a 1st September 2017 submission deadline, you are invited to submit your best work in a bid to win a CANON EOS 7D MARK II DSLR camera and a chance to showcase your work amongst the best photography, and yourself among the best visual storytellers Uganda has to offer.

An international panel of judges with years of photography experience will deliberate on which images stand out and best showcase the events of the past year. To cater to the different photography interests and not limit the competition to only press photography, the award has 7 categories from which participants can choose to submit their published or unpublished work: News, Daily Life, Creative, Portrait, Sports, Nature & Story.

To submit follow this link. Winners in all categories will receive prizes and they will be announced during the award–giving and exhibition opening ceremony on October 26th.

We are looking forward to your submissions!

Who May Enter

The UPPA competition is open to all photographers from 18 years of age who are citizens of
Uganda. Members of UPPA & Foreign Correspondents’ Association of Uganda, the judging panel
, and any family members cannot enter the contest.

The Award

The winner of the main prize, the Uganda Press Photo of the Year Award, receives a CANON sponsored DSLR camera and kit. The prizes awarded are tools of the trade that we hope can enable the winners to continue their work and hone their skills.

The winners also get exposure as the award looks to shine a spotlight on the winning images with a month long exhibition as well as in media both online and in print. 2017 saw UPPA take part in the Images of Current Affairs | Press Photography and Archives in Africa exhibition at the Basel University Library from 28 April – 26 August.
