Amofa, GNA,

Kumasi, July 25, GNA – The police have
arrested and detained three men, suspected to have shot and injured a 17-year
old boy during this year’s Eid-Fitr festival at Manhyia in Kumasi.

Their names were given as Abdulai Umar,
Suleiman Musah and Lawson Herbert Joli.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Ken
Yeboah, the Ashanti Regional Commander, told a media briefing that they were
seized at Salaga in the Northern Region.

He said the trio had confessed to the crime
and claimed that the boy was only a victim of circumstance.

Their target was one Shatta, who had months
before the event celebration engaged Musah in a scuffle.

Musah had reportedly bought the locally
manufactured pistol, which was used to shoot at the victim from one Fuseini,
now on the run at GH¢300.00.

DCOP Yeboah said the three rode on a motorbike
to Manhyia Bonjour, where a group of Muslim youth, had gathered for a street
jam to climax the celebration of the festival, expecting to see the said Shatta
among them.

They opened fire on the celebrants, injuring
the victim in the process.

They escaped on their motorbike, when they saw
that somebody had taken a direct hit.

The three were arrested at Salaga, last week
Thursday, July 20, where they had gone to carry out a robbery attack.

DCOP Yeboah said they were now assisting
police investigations and would later be taken to Salaga to face other charges
in the robbery case.

He confirmed that the injured boy was still on
admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
