The Blind Pass: A new Renaissance? as Elmina Sharks gazump Ashgold and marches on…

Elmina Sharks

The Ghana premier league went ahead over the weekend with the game involving Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak postponed indefinitely due to the unfortunate event of Wednesday night. A minute of silence was observed at all the centres for the departed Asante Kotoko equipment officer.

Bechem United opened the floodgates for the avalanche of goals in game week 23 with a 4-0 drubbing of bottom placed Bolga All Stars. Ahmed Toured capped a one sided show with a hattrick at the Fosu Gyeabour park in Bechem. Former All Stars player Maxwell Frimpong got the other the home side.

There was late drama in the game at Malik Jabir park in Wa. David Abagna’s opener for Wa All Stars was cancelled out late in the game through a spot kick converted by Emmanuel Sarpong. Liberty Professionals however could not see out the draw as Matthew Ando scored in added time to give the champions all 3 points.

Aduana Stars kept the chase on leaders WAFA with a 2-0 win over Ebusua Dwarfs at the Nana Agyeman Badu park. Bright Adjei struck twice in the first half to seal victory for Aduana.

Berekum Chelsea came from a goal down to defeat league leaders West Africa Football Academy by 2 goals to 1. Richard Danso put WAFA in the lead but two well converted spot kicks by Stephen Sarfo overturned the scoreline.

The breaks were finally put on Ashanti Gold SC by another outfit who have began their own renaissance. Elmina Sharks took a 2 goal lead through Eric Osei and Benjamin Tweneboah before Prince Owusu got one back for Ashgold at the Len Clay. There were two spot kicks with Ashgold missing theirs whilst Sharks took full advantage.

The erstwhile Tema derby involving Tema Youth and Inter Allies sold out a 4 goal thriller with Tema Youth coming out tops. Abdul Nasiru Hamza opened the scoring for Inter Allies but goals from Francis Adjetey, James Akaminko and Joseph Paintsil sealed the day for Tema Youth football club.

Medeama SC added more salt to the wounds of troubled Great Olympics as they walloped them by 3 goals to nothing at the Accra Sports stadium. Medeama SC were too hot for Olympics to handle on the day as goals from Justice Blay, Bismarck Oppong and Latif Salifu further sunk the Dade boys into the relegation dogfight.

A NEW RENNAISANCE? AS SHARKS GAZUMP ASHGOLD AND MARCHES ON…

Highly motivated and bankrolled by a novel rich man, Elmina Sharks carried on from where they left off in the GN division one league as they took the premier league by storm in the early stages.

Determined to make their newly built Nduom stadium edifice a fortress, they were shocked by a very experienced Aduana side in their maiden competitive game at the ground. They however recovered to chalk some important victories to keep their debut season on course.

At some point in the season they lost their mojo due to alledged technical inconsistencies among other issues. The axe was raised and head coach Kobina Emissah was asked to step aside. This seem to have yielded dividends as results have improved since that decision was taken. They have since recorded two impressive away victories at Liberty and the recent one against the most in form team in the league currently.

Elmina Sharks over the weekend ended Ashanti Gold SC’s six game unbeaten run to make it consecutive wins on the road. This has lifted them out of the relegation zone and put them in pole position for a top six finish should their renaissance continue. They now have two games on the bounce at home and if their recent games are anything to go by then 4 out of 6 points should be the least sure bet for the Edina based outfit.

Elmina Sharks is the obvious team of the moment as they march on in their newly found renaissance.
