Supreme Court throws out suit against Karpower deal

KapowerThe Supreme Court has dismissed the suit contesting the legitimacy of the deal between the government of Ghana and Turkey that resulted in the delivery of the 250megawatts Karpower ship.

The court, however, deferred its reasons for the judgment to a later date.

MP for Juaben South, Mark Assibey Yeboah and his colleague Afenya Markin sued the government over the deal praying the Supreme Court to drag the attorney general before it to explain why the move was not taken to parliament for approval.

They argued that the deal was shrouded in secrecy and created the impression that some ‘underhand dealings’ had taken place.

But the Supreme Court in its verdict Thursday said the arrangement needed no parliamentary approval and government did not err in the decision to engage the Turkish company for the power deal.
