Somanya bank robbery: Police pick up security man

Police in the Eastern Region have picked up a security man at the Somanya-Odumase branch of the Manya Krobo Rural Bank to assist them investigate a robbery incident at the bank.

One of the suspects was gunned down after fierce exchanges at the scene on Sunday.

The other three reportedly managed to escape with about GHc14,000.

The Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), ASP Yaw Nketia-Yeboah, in an interview with Citi News, appealed to the public to volunteer information that could lead to the arrest of the other suspects.

“…Their security man who was on duty that night has been picked for certain aspects of the investigation. With time, we will let the public know what has come out of that.”

He noted that due to the gun exchanges, some of the robbers were wounded but they managed to escape.

“They were four robbers; one was killed during the exchange with the Police. We believe three of them on the line have been wounded.” he added.

The Police after the exchanges with the robbers retrieved items including a pair of iron cutter, crowbar, pincers, live cartridges, 2 pump action guns and a pistol.

The Somanya Police Commander, ASP Isaac Otsin, said the remains of the robber has been deposited at the Atua government hospital.
