Accra, June 30, GNA
– The Socialist Forum of Ghana (SFG), has called on all progressive and
democratic forces to form a movement to drive away neo-liberal exploitative
system in Ghana.

In a statement
signed by Justice Heneku to mark the 57th anniversary of the Ghana, and copied
to the Ghana News Agency, the SFG urged citizens to help combat a political
system that had exploited the country for a number of years.

The statement said
the years after Ghana declared itself a fully-fledged sovereign Republic had
been characterised by lawlessness, economic neo-liberalism and economic
dislocation.

The SFG expressed
concern over corruption, which it said had become increasingly acceptable in
the society.

“Corruption has
increasingly become acceptable and we are now comfortable with the poverty,
inequality and insanitary conditions which our Republic is now mired in,” it
said.

The statement called
for the formation of a movement that would help rid the country of a system,
which had impeded its progress.

“We call on all
progressive and democratic forces to form a coalition for change to generate a
progressive counter culture of solidarity to combat neo-liberalism and crony
capitalism.

“This counter
culture mass movement should aim at exposing the kind of exploitative system we
are labouring under amongst the Youth, women, farmers, workers, the unemployed,
the small business entrepreneurs, students and the mass ordinary citizens,” it
said.

The SFG urged
Ghanaians on the anniversary of the Republic Day to rise up and take back the
country for their people.

SFG was established
10 years ago as a forum to discuss local and international issues by left
leaning organisations and individuals.
