Ryan Phillippe admits he chose to star in new horror film Wish Upon because it reminded him of his cult classic scary movie

RYAN Phillippe started his career starring in popular nineties films such as the cult classic horror flick, I Know What You Did Last Summer.

And while the actor played a fresh-faced college student in the 1997 hit, he has taken on the challenge of playing the parent of teen’s being tormented in his new movie, Wish Upon.

The film is a chilling thriller which takes the ‘be careful what you wish for’ theme to frightening new levels.

In an exclusive featurette, Ryan explained that he was drawn to the film because it has the similar level of thrilling horror as his famous flick.

He admitted: “I enjoy a good scare, especially this type of scary movie because it reminds me of some of those movies that were around when I came up.

“Like I Know What You Did Last Summer – which I was in – and Scream.”

He continued: “And I thought it would be kinda fun for me now as an adult to play a parent in a film that was like those that I started my career with.”

Wish Upon follows 17-year-old Clare Shannon (Joey King)as she tries to survive the hell that is high school, along with her friends, Meredith (Sydney Park) and June (Shannon Purser).

When her dad (Phillippe) gifts her an old music box with an inscription that promises to grant the owner’s wishes, she thinks there is nothing to lose.

Clare makes her first wish and, to her surprise, it comes true. Before long, she finally has it all: money, popularity and her dream boy.
