#QuizNana: ‘Corrupt’ NDC officials will be prosecuted based on strong evidence – Akufo Addo

President Akufo Addo has said his government will not rush in prosecuting perceived corrupt officials of the esrtwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) government led by ex President John Mahama.

According to him, he’ll allow prosecution only when there’s a strong, well documented and researched allegation, adding that there are a lot of allegations about people, many of which when probed turns out not to be the case.

There’s huge public expectation for the Akufo Addo led government to prosecute some membrs of the immediate past government as they are believed to have been immersed in corrupt deals while in power.

But speaking during his first media interaction in Accra Tuesday, President Akufo Addo stated that if his government should go along with the many allegations making round, there’ll be a plethora of cases many of which the courts will not support.

“All kinds of allegations have come to my notice and notice of my government and there are investigations going foward. I’ll not accept prosecutions being brought just in order to satisfy the appetite of people that people should be prosecuted. They are going to be brought because they have been well documented, researched… there are strong evidence which a court of law will reliably use to convict people.”

He added: “There’s a lot of work being done, they will see the light of day where these allegations are thoroughly investigated and when the time comes for them to find their hearing for prosecution, it’s my expectation that there will not be flimsy cases. They will not be about an attempt to witch-hunting the members of the last government, I’m not going to lend myself to that exercise. There are several cases in the pipeline that I’m aware of that will make it clear to the court anf public opinion that, yes something wrong took place which requires intervention of the courts. President Akufo Addo noted.”
