Probe UEW crisis – UTAG tells Chief Justice

The Winneba Chapter of the University Teachers Association of Ghana wants the Chief Justice to further investigate last month’s case filed against the University that challenged the legitimacy of the governing Council.

According to members of UTAG at the UEW, they believe there were some unseen political hands behind the brouhaha.

It would be recalled that about a month ago, one Supi Kofi Kwayera sued the University and challenged the continuous stay of the School’s governing council.

The Winneba High Court ruled in his favour which eventually led to the reconstitution of the governing Council of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).

But the Winneba Chapter of UTAG led by the Principal of Languages Education, Prof. Ephraim Avea Nsoh said they will resist further attempts by any individual or politician to tarnish the image of the institution.

” I think there is a grand scheme to target Vice Chancellor and some public institution and UEW is just a first one they are targeting. There are some individuals in UEW and the public who want to have undeserved influence in decisions or actions of the University. We will not allow them. Some persons within our outside universities cannot come into terms that the fact that the Vice Chancellor still survived the scheming to become the VC and are therefore doing everything to change him.”

This came up at a programme dubbed “Making sense of the UEW court case; the Perspective of an insider.”
