The outgoing Spokesperson of the Northern Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Ebenezer Tetteh, who briefed the Daily Graphic, said the police had obtained bloodstains and semen (sperms) found in the private parts of the deceased to aid them in their investigations

The police in Tamale have launched a manhunt for two young men suspected to have raped and killed a 12-year-old pupil at Gbolokpasi in the Tamale metropolis last Tuesday.

The suspects, believed to be Nigerians, are said to have attacked the girl, identified as Chidi Nwakwo, at the residence of her parents, who are also Nigerians.

According to the police, the two suspects, after raping the girl, strangled her to avoid the situation where they could be traced, identified and arrested for their alleged crime.

The outgoing Spokesperson of the Northern Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr  Ebenezer Tetteh, who briefed the Daily Graphic, said the police had obtained bloodstains and semen (sperms) found in the private parts of the deceased to aid them in their investigations.

According to him, the police suspected that the two young men might have committed the crime for ritual purposes or carried out a contract killing.

Apart from allegedly raping the girl and strangling her, the suspects are believed to have stolen a flat screen television set and an iPad belonging to Banny Nwakwo, the deceased’s father.

“Preliminary investigations conducted by the police at the scene of the incident indicate that it was either ritual murder or contract killing, but the suspects made it look as if it was robbery,” Mr Tetteh said.

The body of the victim has since been deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) morgue for autopsy.

Narration

Briefing the Daily Graphic, Mr Tetteh said the girl returned from school last Tuesday afternoon and, as usual, changed her school uniform, with the intention of joining her parents at their shop at the Aboabo Market.

As she entered the house to change her clothes, the two young men came in to attack her, forcibly had sex with her and later strangled her.

ASP Tetteh said the girl’s mother, who was waiting for her daughter at the shop and could not understand her delay any longer, went back to the house to look for her, only to find her dead body in the house.

She reported the incident to the police, who went to the scene to convey the body to the TTH.
