Police gun down two robbers in Kumasi

police6Two suspected armed robbers have been shot dead following an exchange of fire with the police in Aputuogya, near Kumasi in Ashanti region. The deceased suspects who have been identified as Kwaku Yeboah and Michael Agyemang, have been on the police wanted list for illegal possession of firearms.

Two AK 47 assault rifles, five magazines fully loaded of 30 rounds each, and 69 spare ammunitions making a total of 216 ammunition were retrieved from a vehicle abandoned by the suspects at Boankra.

According to the Deputy Ashanti Region Police Commander, ACP Ampofo Duku, the suspected armed robbers were arrested separately at Atwima Maakro and Abuakwa upon police intelligence.

The suspects having confessed to owning the weapons that were retrieved from the abandoned vehicle at Boankra on June 23, 2016 and also robbing and killing an Agric officer at Aputuogya, this morning accompanied to police to arrest their accomplice and retrieve their remaining weapons at their hideout. Two locally made pistols and one pump action gun and some live catridges were retrieved at their hideout.

The Deputy Regional Police commander narrated that the police came under heavy gun attack after they had retrieved the weapons from unidentified persons. The two suspects attempted escaping during the gun barrage, leading the police to gun them down.

The police have declared wanted one Issaka Jallo Dzani for supplying armed robbers with weapons and also for masterminding the robbing and killing of an Agric officer, Joseph Baah Tweneboah at Aputuogya on May 31, 2016. ACP Ampofo Duku said security has been heightened following recent killings and armed robbery incidents.
