Planting for Food &Jobs: Over 2000 National Service Personnel deployed to support prog.

At least some 2000 National Service personnel have been deployed to the Agriculture sector to support the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) government’s flagship programme- Planting for Food and Jobs.

The Policy expected to be rolled out in all 216 districts countrywide will involved the supply of farm resources such as high yielding and improved seedlings to participating farmers.

According to government, the policy is intended to revolutionize agriculture in the country with more than 750,000 jobs expected to created for Ghanaians.

The Acting Executive Director of the National Service Scheme, Ussif Mustapha indicated that the deployment of the personnel is to ensure President Akufo-Addo’s vision to power the agric sector under his regime.

“In accordance with the scheme’s commitment to meeting the vision of His Excellency, the President of the Republic,Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, we have deployed 2160 Service Personnel to the Agric sector to support His Excellency the President’s initiative of Planting for Food and Jobs Policy. For 2017/2018 service year, a total number of 91871 National Service Personnel have been deployed. Out of this number, 76908 have been deployed to the public sector and this figure represents 84% of the total postings so far. The private sector also received 14963 Service personnel representing 16.30% of the total figure.

The engagement of the National Service personnel into the agric sector was introduced for the first time in 2010 which generated a huge debate across the country.
