Placenta Leadership Foundation donates books to Obuasi Library

Over 700 books have been donated to the Obuasi Library Complex by a local educational Non-governmental organisation, the Placenta Leadership Foundation.

The books which were gathered through the initiative, Drop-A-Book Campaign, by group will help stock the library which is struggling to fill its shelves for book lovers.

The Obuasi Library Complex built in 2012 through the leadership of the former Member of Parliament for Obuasi East, Edward Ennin, was opened to the public in 2016.

The library project became necessary because of the continuous decline in the performance of the Obuasi Municipality in recent WAEC examinations; a community which hitherto, performed highly in both the basic and second cycle examinations.

Authorities and many organisations are therefore putting up library facilities as a move to contribute to addressing the challenge.

Many organisations and groups in Obuasi have resorted in providing relevant books to stock the library in the attempt to encourage reading mostly among basic school children.

One of such organisations is Placenta Leadership Foundation who as part of its plan for the year is championing reading among school children.

The donation came a day before Placenta’s Youth Revolution Conference and its Youth Achievers Dialogue.

Patron of group, Francis Owusu Mensah, who presented the books to the library, promised the organisation will continue to provide support for the library not only with books but with computers.

Officials of the library excited by the gesture, appealed to benevolent individuals and organisations to support the library.

Head of Projects, George Toko, also called for support to the group’s Drop-A-Book Campaign initiative by donating books to the Obuasi Post Office.

Placenta Leadership Foundation continues to empower young people in Obuasi and its environs, to take up challenges and survive the fast changing trends of today’s economy.
