Next GM EV Might Be a Buick

The next electric vehicle from General Motors might be a Buick crossover.

That information comes from Inside EVs which reports that it got the information from a source who attended a focus group about the new vehicle in California.

That GM was planning more vehicles based on the Bolt EV platform is not new, but what exactly the new vehicle would be is.

“The Bolt is our platform that we’re going to continue on and have a huge range of vehicles,” said GM CEO Mary Barra earlier this year.

The report says that the new Buick electric crossover will be largely badge engineering. Much like the versions of the Volt badged as a Buick that the brand sells in China currently. But it will have some changes over the current Bolt EV.

Inside EVs‘ source said that a 60 kilowatt-hour battery was mentioned, the same as is in the current Bolt.

“Next generation Buick Encore-like,” said the source of the design of the Buick EV.

“The proportions on the Buick look very similar to an Encore or Trax,” they added.

Other details from the focus group include that the new vehicle would have 3-inches more rear legroom than the Bolt EV, but have similar overall dimensions. It has slightly slower acceleration and a slightly higher price compared to the Bolt EV. Inside EVs also reported that the new crossover would have a more premium appearance, including a floating roof and LED lights, as well as dashboard stitching and a large center screen.
