Newcastle sign Kenedy on season-long loan from Chelsea

NEWCASTLE have signed controversial Chelsea star Kenedy on a season-long loan, according to reports.

Kenedy, 21, spent an unsuccessful season on loan at Watford last year and was unlikely to break into the Blues’ first team this term.

Toon boss Rafa Benitez has made it clear he is unhappy with the club’s lack of transfers this summer.

But the former Stamford Bridge chief has had a breakthrough after snapping up the Brazilian from his old club, according to the Mirror.

Kenedy plays mainly as a left-winger but can also slot in at left-back.

He joined Chelsea in a £6.3million move from Fluminese in 2015.

Kenedy was sent home from the Blues’ pre-season tour of China in disgrace after making offensive comments about the country.

He posted a series of images with the captions “Damn China” and “Wake up China you idiot”, in reference to a sleeping security guard.

The Chelsea ace was asked to explain himself to the FA, and later apologised, saying: “Hello my friends, just wanna say sorry if someone was sad because I used the expression “porra”, was no racism, just an expression . . . big hug.”

An apology from the Blues read: “Kenedy’s actions were a mistake that he will learn greatly from.

“His behaviour does not represent the entire team and does not align with the club’s high expectations and strict requirements of its young players.

“He has been strongly reprimanded and disciplined.”

Newcastle have splashed out on just three players this summer in Florian Lejeune, Javin Manquillo, Jacob Murphy.

But a frustrated Benitez has made a public plea with Toon owner Mike Ashley to improve his squad further.

Yesterday, he told Sky Sports: “I am not happy [with transfer dealings] but for me it is a challenge.

“I want to do my best. Every manager wants to improve and have better players, but at the same time, I am happy with the players I have because the team spirit was good last season and hopefully we can replicate that.”
