Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez joins West Brom in £2m race for Hull midfielder Tom Huddlestone


NEWCASTLE have entered the race to Hull midfielder Tom Huddlestone.

Toon boss Rafa Benitez has enquired about taking the experienced midfielder this summer, as the Spanish boss looks to add quality to his squad on their return to the top flight.

Huddlestone has a clause in his contract allowing him to leave the KCOM this summer for a cut-price £2million if the Tigers were relegated.

The former Spurs playmaker is still regarded as one the best passers around and Benitez will see the fee as money well spent if he can get a deal done quickly.

Benitez will also look to tap into the former Spurs stars experience and ability to help control the tempo of games alongside his former Hull team-mate Mo Diame at St James’ Park.

It’s been a frustrating summer so far for Benitez who looks to have lost out to Swansea for sought after striker Tammy Abraham.

The Toon also failed to land free agent Willy Caballero opted to move to Chelsea as back-up to first choice keeper Thibaut Courtois.

Newcastle could face competition from West Brom have also shown some interest in Huddlestone as boss Tony Pulis looks to replace Darren Fletcher who joined Stoke.

Huddlestone joined the Tigers from Tottenham for £5m in 2013 and penned a new two-year last summer, however relegation back to the Championship could bring an end to his time at the club.
