NDC youth protest KMA boss ‘supposed’ resignation

protestSome supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region, are protesting against pressure from the Asanteman Traditional Council for the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Kojo Bonsu to resign.

According to them, they have picked up signals that the KMA boss is willing to step down following the pressure from the traditional authorities, hence their resolve to ensure that he does not resign.

The Asanteman Traditional Council on Monday reiterated their call on President Mahama to sack Kojo Bonsu, for disrespecting them, despite an apology from him.

The Asanteman Council at a crunch meeting unanimously stated that the Mayor must be replaced.

Citi News’ Ashanti Regional Correspondent, Hawa Iddrisu, reported that scores of NDC supporters thronged the Miklin Hotel where the party will be launching a book today [Tuesday], to express their displeasure.

“There is a book launch today which is going to be done by the MCE and the Ashanti Regional Minister, Alexander Ackon. As we speak, hundreds of NDC supporters have thronged the Miklin Hotel in Kumasi asking the MCE not to resign. The have warned that they will advise themselves if Kojo Bonsu resigns,” she added.

Hawa Iddrisu also added that, the protesters are waiting present a petition to the Regional Minister “for onward submission to the President to ensure that Mr. Kojo Bonsu does not resign.”

“They argue that, four months to the election, they think that it is not right for chiefs to be engaging in politics and so they are saying that they would not want the MCE to go and if there is anything, the President must handle it. They said they are going to do everything possible to ensure that Kojo Bonsu stays in office until his tenure expires.”
