The Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Haruna Iddrisu, has given the strongest indication that it will sanction any act of misappropriation by the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and the National Vocational Technical Institute, NVTI in the execution of their mandates in the provision of jobs.

According to the Minister, this will form part of government’s overall aim to ensure value for money in the numerous social intervention policies to reverse the rising trend of unemployment in the country.

Honorable Haruna Iddrisu made the remarks at a signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two instituti

ons to train over 5000 youths.

“We would like the managers of NVTI and YEA to know that we will be very strict. As such, we would urge them to make sure that all procurement processes are adhered to without any excuses and that competitively where necessary they must ensure they open up the procurement process,” he cautioned.

The beneficiaries were drawn from all the ten regions across the country.

Their training will involve gaining practical experiences in modules including; masonry, capentry and hairdressing, among others.

Meanwhile Mr. Iddrisu has assured of his outfit’s commitment not to repeat past experiences that led to the collapse of similar modules.

“On our honor we will not, this should even be viewed as a binding agreement since both of them are accountable institutions under their respective laws and we will hold them accountable to their audit processes and their annual reports even to Parliament so that we will be able to appreciate them,”
In a related development, the head of the NVTI, Engineer Stephen Bismark Amponsah has disclosed that over twenty thousand youths are currently undergoing training as community health professionals.

Upon completion, they will be deployed to all the Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPSS) compounds across the country.
