Major Mahama killing: 19 charged with murder

Nineteen persons suspected to have taken part in the lynching of Major Mawxell Mahama have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime to wit murder and murder.

Thirteen out of the nineteen accused persons have been discharged to serve as witnesses.

DSP George Amega told the Accra District Magistrate Court on Thursday that 13 persons are still on the run.

The case has been adjourned to July 19.

Late Major Mahama who served served with the 5thInfantry Batallion (5BN) at Burma Camp in Accra but was Commander of a detachment in Denkyira Boase in the Central Region was lynched and set on fire whilst jogging in the area Tuesday dawn.

He was mistaken by the residents to be an armed robber after a pistol was found tucked beneath his dress while he engaged a snail seller during his jogging.
