Kyebi-Apapam residents demonstrate over political involvement in Chieftaincy issues

Hundreds of residents of Kyebi-Apapam have demonstrated against some elements in the ruling New Patriotic Party government for using political powers to impose a new Chief on the community despite the fact that the community has a legitimate Chief, Nana Opoku Menya II, installed three year ago.

The demonstrators clad in red arm band and dresses poured on the street hoisting several placards indicting some officials of the ruling government particularly, the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta, for using political powers and state security operatives to install a parallel chief creating disunity and rancour in the community.
According to leaders of the demonstration, the embattled newly installed Chief of Apapam, Osabarima Okgyeaman Apagya Ofori ll, is a nephew to the Finance Minister and strongly connected to the ruling government hence his rambo-style installation characterized by violence and gunshots to parry the opposing Kingmakers and residents  a month ago.

Secretary of the Kyebi-Apapam Community ,George Badu told Kasapa News, some key family members of the embattled chiefs connected to NPP threatened that they will destool the Chief should NPP come to power hence believe the installation of the new Chief has political undertone.

He appealed to President Akufo Addo and the Member of Parliament, Atta Akyea to come to the aid of the community to ensure that the right things are done for harmony to prevail.

The head of Agona Royal Family Barfuor kwabi  said the Community do not recognize the New Chief sworn to ascend the stool by Okyenhene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyin.

Barfuor opoku Minta-Kyidomhene of Kyebi-Apapam stated that, the Okyenhene and his cohorts cannot impose a Chief on the community.
