Kumasi: Abudus, Andanis clash at Alabar

Tension is mounting in Kumasi following a clash between members of the Abudu and Andani Royal families at Alabar, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti region.

Abusua FM’s, Osei Kwadwo reports that the two rival groups clashed Thursday morning over the management of a lorry station at Alabar. The swift intervention of the Police, however, prevented the clashes from turning bloody.

Reports say,the tension between the two groups has been buiding for the last five months, immediately the New Patriotic Party won the 2016 elections.

The Abudus, who belong to the NPP party want to takeover the station because their party is in power but their rivals, the Andanis belonging to the opposition National Democratic Congress are fiercely resisting, claiming they have the right to run the station, the report said.

According to Osei Kwadwo, both factions have reinforced their ranks by inviting their colleagues from the North who are spiritually fortified to help in the fight.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has moved in to quell the tension,  DCOP Ken Yeboah told Starr FM.

This is not the first time the two families who share a rocky relationship have faced off.

In March, members of the two gates were involved in bloody clashes over the Tamale Lorry Terminal at Aboabo resulting in six people sustaining cutlass wounds.
