KU Leven PhD Fellowship in Landscape Architecture, Belgium Scholarship Positions 2017 2018




The Katholieke Universiteit Leuven is offering Full-time Ph.D. Fellowship in Landscape Architecture to study in Belgium. International students are eligible to apply for this fellowship program.

It not only aims to contribute to the on-going effort of rebalancing the social and the ecological but also expects to open a concrete development perspective, develop new design and policy strategies that surpass technical problem-solving.

The Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, also known as KU Leuven or the University of Leuven, is a Dutch-speaking university in Leuven, Flanders, Belgium. Scholarship Award: KU Leven offers a full-time Ph.D. fellowship for 48 months with starting date on October 1st, 2017. Depending on the candidate’s capacity to fulfill his/her requirements, the 1-year starting position is renewable up to 4 years.

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship:

  • The candidate holds a diploma in the field of architecture, engineering-architecture, landscape architecture, landscape urbanism or equivalent;
  • The candidate obtained a Masters degree in one of the above (or related) domains, and at least distinguished her/himself from other fellow students with excellent academic results;
  • The candidate holds relevant experience in cutting-edge (landscape) design and practice;
  • The candidate is qualified and prepared to support design studio guidance in interaction with the development of his/her research-by-design endeavor;
  • The candidate meets the requirements to begin the doctoral training and engages her/himself to complete a Ph.D.;
  • The candidate is interested in scientific research and will publish and co-publish in relevant international scholarly journals to effectively disseminate research results;
  • The candidate is a good communicator and enjoys working in a team;
  • The candidate is willing to learn languages that might prove useful for the research and is capable and prepared to conduct intensive field and archival research in relevant contexts of the investigation.

Nationality: International students are eligible to apply for this fellowship program.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirements: The candidate obtained a Masters degree in one of the above (or related) domains, and at least distinguished her/himself from other fellow students with excellent academic results.

English Language Requirements: The candidate is a good communicator and enjoys working in a team.

  • research proposal (max. 1500 words)
  • an updated CV;
  • a portfolio of critically selected and representative projects.
