KTI brutality: Police PRO, SWAT Commander transferred from Ashanti Region

The Ashanti regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Police service, ASP Yusif Mohammed Tanko and the SWAT Commander Superintendent Christopher Klomegah have been transferred from the region.

Head of the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Supt. Cephas Arthur who disclosed this on Adom FM’s Morning Show “Dwaso Nsem” Monday indicated that the two have been transferred to their various home regions.

He said ASP Tanko is heading to Tamale in the Northern region whiles Supt Klomegah goes to Aveyime district in the Volta region.

Education Minister, Dr Mathew Opoku-Prempeh last week demanded that the police PRO and Supt Klomegah be sacked from the region following attack on students of the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) last Tuesday.

Describing the situation as unfortunate, Dr Opoku-Prempeh noted that explanations offered by ASP Yusif Tanko and Supt Klomegah are unreasonable and therefore should be sacked from the region.

“That police officer called Tanko is not known to be somone who speaks the truth. He is always telling lies and now you want to cover the bad acts by these police officers. We went to the Asokwa police and also to the regional police to enquire and Tanko and Supt Klomegah just enjoyed lying to us that they attacked the students to ensure law and order which was absolutely false.

“I am calling on the IGP to make sure that these police officers are transferred. They don’t deserve to be at post in the Ashanti Region,” he said.

But Supt. Cephas Arthur commenting on the issue said the transfer of the two police officers just coincided wit the KTI brutality since the duo had already been penciled for transfer.

“They were already penciled down for transfer just that it coincided with the KTI saga…,” he said.

ASP Tanko is number 44 whiles Supt Klomegah is placed 30 on the list of police transferred.
