Tema, June 27, GNA – Mr.
Noble Atsu Ahadzi, the District Budget Officer for the Kpone Katamanso District
Assembly, says it is the responsibility of every citizen to pay their basic
rates of Gh¢2.10 since it is mandated by law.

He made this call
during the end of its public hearing on the fee fixing resolution with members
of Zenu-Katamanso-Kubekro-Atadeka-Santeo (ZEKKAS) Area Council.

Mr. Atsu Ahadzi said
that, “the assembly is not going to stop taking on members who fail to pay
their basic and property rates within the District” and advised members to
request for receipt whenever they made payments.

The Budget Officer
admonished revenue collectors to collect data on properties when distributing
bills to residents.

Mr. Ahadzi added that,
the Assembly had so far digitized 66,000 properties within the Kpone Katamanso
District and appealed to residents of Zenu to consider moving from the 3rd
class residents to 2nd class to increase its revenue mobilization.

The public hearing was
in accordance with the new Local Government Act 2016, Act 936 which mandated
the District Assemblies to engage members of the District in determining how
much should be levied on them for developmental purposes.

With a Power Point
presentation, the District Planning Officer, Mrs. Ivy Oduro Kwateng outlined
the various developmental projects KKDA had carried out since its creation in
June 2012.

According to the
District Planning Officer, in spite of the successes choked by the Assembly,
there were still more work to be done within the district, and called on
members to assist the Assembly.

The meeting was
attended by traders, artisans, landlords, opinion leaders, representatives of
businesses, unit committee and Assembly members.

The participants
deliberated and made recommendations to the officials on how they should be
levied for developmental purposes.
