Jose Mourinho rules out Cristiano Ronaldo bid as Man United boss calls move ‘mission impossible’

JOSE MOURINO says it would be mission impossible to get Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford.

There was hope this summer when Ronaldo indicated he wanted to move believing Real were not backing him over an allegation of tax fraud.

But Mourinho said: “We have never thought about it because he is such an important player for his club, of great economic power, where we have not been able to find for whatever reason something that could have made us think that Ronaldo could leave.

“I’m not going to waste my time thinking about players who are mission impossible.”

United sold Ronaldo to Real Madrid in 2009 for £80million.

At the time Ferguson said he thought he would return one day.

That could well have happened in the summer if 2013 but when Ferguson retired the deal was off.

Now it looks like it will never happen.

Mourinho has also reiterated his disappointment at failing to get Alvaro Morata.

He gave him his debut at Real Madrid but failed in an attempt to reunite with him when Real asked for £80million after United offered £60million.

He said: “It is a shame. It is a player who made it to the first team with me. We have a special liking for, he is someone special.

“I enjoyed watching his evolution in Juventus and Madrid. It is like that.

“I don’t think he can end with us.”

While Morata did not join United, Romelu Lukaku did and Mourinho got his first look at him on Saturday night here against LA Galaxy.

Lukaku came on in the second-half of a 5-2 win but failed to get on the scoresheet not that Mourinho was worried about that.

He said: “He’s a team player and was not worried about himself. He was worried about the improvement of the team.”

Marcus Rashford was the star of the show against Galaxy scoring twice in the first half.

Mourinho said: “He’s learning a lot, a great pro, with a great attitude.

“Last season he was not scoring goals and missing a lot of chances which was not a drama because that’s part of the evolution.

“We know he is going to score more goals than last season.”
