Jeremy McConnell cheered by friends as he arrives home after being spared jail for battering ex Stephanie Davis

JEREMY McConnell was given a hero’s welcome as he arrived back in Dublin – days after being found guilty of battering his ex-girlfriend Stephanie Davis.

The Celebrity Big Brother star swaggered through the arrival gates with a big grin on his face after dodging prison time, while his mates waved “not guilty” banners from the sidelines.

Earlier this week The Sun Online revealed former Hollyoaks actress Steph had tragically suffered a miscarriage because of the stressful court ordeal.

She was later filmed on a boozy night out as she went into self-destruct mode – leaving her friends terrified for her safety.

This morning Jeremy beamed as he walked through the airport surrounded by “not guilty” signs.

The reality star was handed a 20-week jail sentence, suspended for 12 months – so he’ll only serve time if he re-offends within a year.

Jeremy was also slapped with a restraining order banning him from contacting Steph or visiting the street where she lives.

The court ruled he will have to pay £1000 in court costs and £1000 to Steph in compensation.

Plus he will have to attend a Building Better Relationships course, and carry out 200 hours community service.

Meanwhile Steph’s friends have told The Sun Online they’re worried for the former Hollyoaks actress as she struggles to comprehend the outcome.

A source said: “Steph’s absolutely devastated. No one has ever seen her as low as she is now and everyone is worried about her.

“She’s trying to stay strong for Caben-Albi but it’s been so hard for her to cope recently. Right now she is rock bottom.”

The strain of the court case has only added to the 24-year-old’s upset.

Steph’s friend added: “No one knows what to say to Steph or how to comfort her.

“She wanted Jeremy to serve time behind bars and can’t work out why it didn’t happen.

“Her family and friends are surrounding her and trying to help her keep her chin up but it’s tough.”

In a statement, Steph said: “This incident has made me feel a nervous wreck.

“Every time I hear a loud noise I panic.

“I have to take anti-depressants.

“I feel like I’m drowning. I feel helpless like the whole world is against me and I feel alone and this has affected how I live my life.

“I feel numb inside and just want this nightmare to be over.”
