I’ve not been suspended – Atik Mohammed

The Peoples National Convention (PNC) General Secretary Atik Mohammed has dismissed reports that he’s been suspended indefinately by the party for gross misbeaviour and misconduct.

Kasapafmonline.com sources say a seven-hour-long extraordinary National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Saturday chaired by PNC National Chairman Bernard Mornah and attended by all the party’s National Executives and regional representatives as well as the PNC’s 2016 Flagbearer, Dr Edward Mahama took the decision to suspend Atik Mohammed for bringing the image of the PNC into disrepute, citing his repeated invectives on Dr Edward Mahama at NEC meetings.

He’s further accused of discrediting Dr Mahama in public after the latter was appointed Ambassador at Large by President Nana Akufo Addo recently.

Atik who was unhappy becuase Dr Mahama had left him in the dark about his appointment in an interview with Kasapa FM questioned the physician’s loyalty to the PNC after accepting the appointment.

“The PNC is not like a kiosk where the owner can come in at anytime to clear the goods in it. There are rules on how the PNC should operate. We can only wish him well and the PNC will continue … May be there is a bigger opportunity ahead. But if you look at what he [Dr. Edward Mahama] has done, his loyalty has been brought to question.”

The NEC had met to consider the PNC’s “work plan ahead of 2018” elections, the party’s “strategic plan” and internal wrangling that has hit it in recent times.

Atik’s issue took centre stage during the discussions on the party’s internal matters as he came under heavy flak for ignoring the party’s laid down procedure and rather rushed to the media to make scathing remarks about Dr Mahama.

However in a reaction on his Facebook page, shortly after the suspension was announced, Atik said no organ of the party except a national congress has the powers to suspend him.

My attention has been drawn to some news that I have been suspended indefinitely. It is not true and, indeed, no organ of the party save National Congress is clothed with such powers. I will officially be issuing a statement to this effect.”
