Invest in children’s health – Dr. Adusei to parents

Dr Kwabena OpukuThe immediate past President of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. Kwabena Opoku Adusei, has admonished parents to invest in the health of their children.

Dr. Adusei, made the remark during one of Breast Cancer International’s (BCI-DHL) free screening exercise for some senior high schools in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region He noted that because breast cancer mostly affects women, it is important for parents to be watchful of the health of their daughters since they are the ones who are pre-disposed to the disease.

The screening at the Osei Kyeretwie SHS (OKESS), in Kumasi, drew over 2,800 students, who were counselled by BCI President, Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai, to periodically carry our self-breast examination and promptly report any unusual observation for treatment.

She assured the students that breast cancer, contrary to widely held misconceptions, is treatable and curable, but on condition that early signs are reported for prompt attention.

Dr. Wiafe Addai, observed that the collaboration with DHL had widened and expanded the coverage of free breast screening in the country and encouraged other corporate institutions to help support the gesture.

Survivors of breast cancer present at the program related their personal experiences, assuring the students that they had no reason to be worried in the unlikely event of affliction, saying life doesn’t take a turn for the worst if detected on time and cured.
