Gov’t has laid solid foundation for economic take-off in 2017 – Mahama

mahamaPresident John Mahama says Ghana is ready for an economic take-off starting 2017.

He says all the sectors of the Ghanaian economy have been prepared in “readiness for the take-off” which will impact positively the lives of Ghanaians.

Speaking to sections of Ghanaian Muslims during a special prayer session of the Eid-al-Adha celebration at the Black Star Square in Accra, President Mahama said government is feverishly working to make Ghana the “economic powerhouse” in West Africa.

“..together we [Ghanaians] have come very far and I believe that together we will achieve even more,” he said

From one sector to the other, President Mahama delved into projects government has undertaken to improve the livelihood of Ghanaians.

“We are expanding our ports, we are building more airports, we upgrading others to international standards, and we are providing more buses to create easy transportation linkages between our towns and villages,” he said.

Government, he said has built new roads, and rehabilitated several others across the country to facilitate movement of people and goods from one place to the other.

On agriculture, President Mahama said irrigation projects are being constructed in “readiness towards our green agricultural revolution.”

More communities, he said are being connected to the electricity grid to open them up for development.

“We are extending clean drinking water to many communities, [and] we are creating more opportunities for our young students who have had their education truncated at the JHS level if it were not for the 123 community-based senior high school,” he said.

“We are developing our oil and gas resources to guarantee power and energy supply, we are investing heavily in restoring our railways and together we have come very far.”
