Ghanaians Refusal To Buy Music Leaving Artists In Poverty – Kaakyire Kwame Appiah

Veteran Highlife star Kaakyire Kwame Appiah says the music business is not lucrative anymore and many stars are being left in poverty because Ghanaians do not purchase music but instead download it online for free.

According to Appiah, artists like himself could spend thousands of Ghana cedis to record and promote a song, and cannot even break even with what they make from the song.

“When I go to Germany to record a song over five hundred million (Gh 50,000) and I come back to promote it with two hundred million (Ghc 20,000) but people use their phones to download the songs instead of buying my CD, I will go hungry because I will not be able to recoup the money I invested into the music,” he said in a recent radio interview.

According to him, this is breeding poverty in the music business and leading many stars like himself to abandon it.

Kaakyire Appiah says he’s currently working on a soon to be released movie which would shake up the country when it’s released.
