Ghana should be flourishing with abundant resources – Konadu

Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings1Given its abundant natural resources, Ghana should be flourishing after gaining independence from the British in 1957, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, flagbearer of the National Democratic Party (NDP) has said.

According to her, rather than benefiting from these natural resources, millions of Ghanaians were facing key socio-economic challenges that should not be experienced in the country.

In a 2016 Republic Day Facebook post on Friday, the former first lady and wife of the founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) said: “Millions of Ghanaians home and overseas are unhappy, anxious, sad, and economically tied.”

The post added: “These words may seem harsh but they are true. Here in Ghana, there are millions who are just existing on a day-to-day basis, some who are on the poverty line and others who have been forced to engage in morally and criminally unacceptable activities to buy food for themselves and their families; for others, their once thriving businesses have collapsed and many workers have been forced to work less hours or sacked. Food prices have rocketed, utility tariffs are breaking the bank, sanitation, environmental and climate change challenges facing the nation are monumental.

“Unemployment particularly among the youth is a no-go area. Many Ghanaians who have lived and worked abroad for many years and want to return home and give their best to Mother Ghana find themselves stuck between a rock and a hard place – they are ready and able to come back home, but to what?.”

She has, therefore, asked Ghanaians to vote for her in this year’s elections to become the next president of Ghana to move the country in the right direction.

”FREE AT LAST, FREE AT LAST, THANK GOD ALMIGHTY- WE’RE FREE AT LAST” – famous words echoed by a great and universally respected black leader many years ago.

Sentiments like these were spoken by our leaders of the day and many ordinary Ghanaians when Ghana finally broke free from the shackles of the British and the first Republic Day was born.

Republic Day is a day that all who believe in a truly democratic, peaceful and progressive Ghana should celebrate with great gusto and joy. Why! Because it is the day when all Ghanaian citizens were given the mandate to steer Ghana in the direction that would benefit the people and advance the nation.
Blessed as Ghana is with a plethora of God given natural resources, our nation should be flourishing and the majority of the people living stable happy lives and looking forward to even bigger and brighter futures.
Alas, this is not the case. On this Republic Day, 1st July, 2016, millions of Ghanaians home and overseas are unhappy, anxious, sad and economically tied.

These words may seem harsh but they are true, here in Ghana there are millions who are just existing on a day to day basis, some who are on the poverty line and others who have been forced to engage in morally and criminally unacceptable activities to buy food for themselves and their families; for others, their once thriving businesses have collapsed and many workers have been forced to work less hours or sacked.

Food prices have rocketed, utility tariffs are breaking the bank, sanitation, environmental and climate change challenges facing the nation is monumental.

Unemployment particularly among the youth is a no go area. Many Ghanaians who have lived and worked abroad for many years and want to return home and give their best to Mother Ghana find themselves stuck between a rock and a hard place – they are ready and able to come back home, but to what?.

On November 7th, 2016 by the Grace of God, Ghanaians will exercise their right to vote for a new Government and I urge all Ghanaians to let their thumbs do the talking – BE BOLD and vote for the BE BOLD party NDP and for me Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.

Let us change the future of our country in a united , honest and peaceful way so that we can all enjoy the next Republic Day with hope and harmony. Let us give Ghana a chance to once again be the true Black Star of Africa.

Thank you for taking the time to read this message. I once again wish you all wherever you may be a Happy Republic Day. God Bless us all and God Bless Ghana.

Thank you.
