Ghana Health Service Rescinds Decision To Suspend Nursing Mother For Breasfeeding

The Ghana Health Service has rescinded the decision of a Municipal Health Director to suspend a nursing mother who brought her baby to work to breastfeed.

A spokesperson for the Service has revealed that the affected nurse has thus been recalled to work, and has received an apology from the Director who suspended her.

She would now also be able to take her baby to work and breastfeed.

We reported on the amazing news of a nursing mother who had been suspended by the Ghana Health Service for breastfeeding her child at work.

A letter sent to Rita Adu-Kyie, who works at the Odumase CHPS compound, from the Municipal Director of Health Services, suspended her for bringing her child to work and breastfeeding it despite numerous warnings not to do so.

However, GHS spokesperson Rebecca Ackwonu said the decision has now been reversed.

“The Municipal Director has been queried and he has retracted, withdrawn the letter and apologised to the lady in question after a meeting with his superiors. The case has been settled,” she said.
