Gerard Pique says Barcelona players are begging Neymar to stay and that he wouldn’t get recognition he deserves at Paris Saint-Germain

GERARD PIQUE admitted Barcelona players are trying to beg Neymar to stay and not join Paris Saint-Germain.

The Barca stalwart also said Neymar would not get the recognition he deserves if he played in the French league.

Pique posted a picture on Instagram on Sunday alongside Neymar with the caption “stays”.

But the Spanish defender said that was just wishful thinking with Neymar’s future yet to be decided.

“It was just a personal opinion,” Pique said about the Instagram post.

“It’s not up to me to say if he stays or goes. He is the one who has to say that. But I hope that he stays.”

He added: “There is no better place than with us and we have tried to convince him of that.

“The French league, with all due respect, if you don’t win the Champions League there then he is not going to get the recognition that he deserves playing there.”

Neymar has been linked with a move away from Barcelona with PSG lining up a world record £195m swoop.

The French side held a press conference just 30 minutes before Barcelona’s on Tuesday night, but banned any questions about Neymar.

SunSport revealed recently that PSG and the attacker had already agreed personal terms, where he is in line to earn £27million-a-year after tax.

Yesterday it was reported that the French club had the contract waiting on the table for the former Santos man, and all he has to do now is put pen-to-paper.

Barca had hoped Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez had successfully convinced Neymar to shun the interest from PSG, but the pair appeared to have failed as he nears his stunning move.
