Game of Thrones fans thrilled as theory about the entire show’s existence is ‘confirmed’ – and it’s because of ONE line from series 7 episode 2

COMPARED to most characters in Game Of Thrones, Samwell Tarly is pretty dull – he doesn’t fight, he doesn’t have a dragon, and he’s not a blood-thirsty lunatic.

But a new fan theory has placed him as perhaps the most important person in the entire show – and now fans think that they’ve got the proof.

In the latest episode, Stormborn, Samwell is busy researching how to kill the White Walkers in Oldtown’s Citadel when he has a little chat with Archmaester Marwyn.

He told the young Maester that a little “style” is necessary for making people engage with history, so they learn from it and don’t let mistakes be repeated.

Sam – catching a glimpse of the Archmaester’s work A Chronicle of the Wars of Following the Death of King Robert I – helpfully offers him some advice.

He says: “Mm, possibly something a bit more poetic?”

This is where the theory kicks in.

What if the Archmaester was to die and Sam takes over writing the book, and renames it A Song of Fire And Ice?

That would make him the author of the book the show is based on, and the curator of all the stories we have seen unfold in the programme.

The theory was first bolstered at the end of series 6, when Sam first walked in to the library and was left awestruck by a piece of random golden apparatus – a gyroscope – hanging from the ceiling.

Fans immediately recognised the antiquated apparatus as being a main feature of the show’s title scenes along with a map of Westeros, which obviously means it’s important.

Furthermore, last year Sam actor John Bradley seemed to hint that there was a literary element at play.

He told the Hollywood Reporter: “If you take the logic of the story now, the story of Westeros and the story of the battle for the Iron Throne, it would be a book in that library.

“The visual motif of that is you’re about to be told a story – the sense of an idea of being told a story, and people gaining that knowledge, the way Sam is absorbing knowledge in the library.”

If Dallas can write off a whole series as just being a dream, then Game of Thrones can definitely be based on a man who mixes up herbs for a living writing a book in a massive library.

Fans recently also solved the problem of Jon Snow’s parentage with some Game of Thrones-inspired algebra.

And if you’re one of the many people who can never quite remember all the characters’ names and what they’re doing in the show, this might help.
