Fake ECG workers arrested for stealing meters


Two people who posed as employees of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have been arrested for allegedly stealing electricity meters in Kwashie Amabo in the Awutu Breku district of the Central Region.

The suspects, Kwesi Ettah 42, and Joe Jako 22, according to Adom News’ Kofi Adjei were arrested by some youth in the area and handed over to the police.

Some residents who spoke to Adom News said, the suspects who posed as employees of the ECG have been working in the area for the past year.

However, some residents decided to contact them at the ECG office in the area after they collected GHC100 from them to connect them to the national grid.

But they were shocked to bee told the two gentlemen were not employees of the power distributor. After several hours of manhunt, the suspects were apprehended and subjected to severe beatings by residents

Adom News’ Kofi Adjei who was at the scene reported that the suspects were nearly lynched by the angry youth but were rescued by some people handed over to the Awutu Breku police.

When officials of the Awutu Breku Office of ECG were invited to the station, they denied knowledge of the suspects described them as impostors.

The two are currently in police custody assisting in investigations.
