Every child must be supported to develop

ucwasAccra, GNA – Children, no matter their circumstances, should be supported to develop fully, the Events Manager at Indomie, Agnes Botchway, has said.

She said children had varied potentials and it was only through constant support and guidance that they could identify their strengths and develop them to the optimum.

Mrs. Botchway was speaking in an interview, on the sidelines of the finals of this year’s Universal Concept Mental Arithmetic System, (UCMAS) National Finals, held in Accra.

UCMAS is an educational group, which engages in the holistic training of the right brain of children, using special techniques that enable pupils to do arithmetic calculations mentally within a matter of seconds.

Each year, a nationwide competition is held to come up with a champion. Three pupils were in the finals of this year’s competition with Raphael Cudjoe Wiredu from the Achimota Centre, becoming the national champion.

The second position went to Ofori Adu of Perpetual Help School in Lapaz, Accra, while Aileen Okine of the C.P.A Centre, also in Accra, placed third.

They received various sums of money and products from sponsors as prizes.

Mrs. Botchway explained that Indomie chose to cosponsors the UCMAS because it provided the right platform for children to develop interest and capacity in Mathematics.

She said considering the value of Mathematics and the fact that many people tended to shy away from the subject, any programme that would make children love Mathematics was worth all the support.

She said Indomie would continue to support the competition and urged parents to show interest in it.

For his part, the Chief Executive of UCMAS Ghana Ltd, Roger Ohemeng, said pupils who enrolled in the UCMAS programme also showed brilliance in other subjects, hence the need for parents and schools to enroll their children.
