A 28-year-old taxi driver at Akyem Oda Quarters popularly known as ‘Abontia’ has been murdered by unknown assailants at his residence.

Angry youth who suspect the brother of the deceased contracted the assailants, stormed the crime scene and set the house occupied by both the deceased and his brother ablaze.

The brother of the deceased Emmanuel Agyei and the assailants are currently on the run.

Confirming the incident to Starr News, the Oda District Police Commander DSP Samuel Ntoso, said the police r

eceived distress calls at about 8pm Wednesday from the area and dispatched a team of police officers to the scene.

He explained that the Police on reaching the scene found the taxi driver dead with cuts and lying in a pool of blood outside the house.

He added that close to the body was a sack which contained a locally manufactured single-barrelled gun and a stick with the KIA Picanto taxi cab of the deceased with registration number GW9380-16 parked in the house.

DSP Ntoso added that, the police moved into the house in an attempt to search and arrest the assailants but they had absconded before they arrived.

According to DSP Ntoso, preliminary police investigations indicated that, the assailants were led by brother of the deceased Emmanuel Agyei.

He further disclosed that some informants told the Police that the brother of the deceased recently brought two strange men to stay in the house but they all varnished after the incident.

According to the informant, they heard distress noise of the deceased shouting “they are killing me”, after which angry youth in the area stormed the scene around 1am to set the house ablaze.

DSP Ntoso mentioned that a joint Police reinforcement team and Military from Achiase Jungle warfare rushed to the scene to prevent the rampaging youth from further damages while fire service officials managed to quench the fire.

The police have mounted a manhunt for the suspected assailants.
