Ecobank donates GHS 196,940 as part of CSR

Ecobank Ghana has donated GHS 196,940.00 worth of items and cash as part of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities to support various segments of the country.

The beneficiaries include Children’s Heart Foundation, National Malaria Control Program, Village of Hope Orphanage, National Diabetes Association and 30 selected Medical Students.

The Managing Director of Ecobank Ghana, Dan Sackey speaking at the 2017 Ecobank Corporate Social Responsibility Presentation ceremony said ‘Ecobank acting through The Ecobank Foundation, the main arm for discharging CSR activities across the Ecobank group, has consistently over the years, demonstrated its commitment to contributing to the Economic development and Financial Integration of the African continent in various ways’.

‘At Ecobank, our CSR programs have been carefully and strategically planned to promote national development, in the areas of Health, Education and Financial inclusion. As an Institution, we have been unrelenting in our commitment to our vision’ he said.
This is demonstrated in our consistent support to various organizations including the following;

We have maintained over 15 years relationship with the Children’s Heart Foundation that has resulted in the surgery of seventeen (17) children with serious and life threatening heart conditions, out of which 16 were successful and are doing well.We are today donating GHC 60,900.00 as funding for two (2) of such children who desperately need surgery.

We equally have maintained a relationship with the Village of Hope orphanage School, spanning more than 15 years where we have built an administration block for the school, donated a bus and refurbished other facilities. Also Twenty nine (29) children of the school have been or are being supported financially through SHS, out of which 5 are now university graduates, one of whom is currently employed as a teacher at a school in East Legon whilst the remaining 4 are fresh graduates yet to enter the Job market.  Six (6) others have recently graduated from SHS awaiting entry into the university. We are today presenting GHC16, 000.00 for the 3rd term fees of 15 students currently in SHS.

Our relationship with the various medical schools in Ghana also span a period of over 10 years where we have each year provided financial support to some of our medical students on their exchange programs.. Today we are offering thirty students financial support to meet part of the cost of their Exchange program. Each of the thirty (30) students is receiving the cedi equivalent of $400.00.  This is being presented to them through our Ecobank Visa prepaid Card.

In 2016, we supported the National Diabetes Association (NDA) in providing   free diabetes screening and also creating awareness of the management of Diabetics. This exercise reached over 100,000 people in Accra and Eastern region.

We are again in 2017 supporting NDA with   GHC 40,000 worth of Glucose Test strips needed for the management of diabetes conditions.

The Ecobank Foundation in partnership with the Global fund have also over the years, engaged in the fight to end malaria andwe are today also donating mosquito nets worth over GHC 28,000.00 to the Malaria Control Program in Ghana. This is an activity that is ongoing in our other affiliates across the continent towards the fight to end malaria.

In all, we are today making donations worth GHS 196,940.00 as part of our CSR activities to support various segments of our communities.

He added that these projects, being funded today, will impact our nation positively, by reducing poverty and improving education and health in line with our Corporate Vision.

“It is globally acknowledged that good corporate citizens promote economic growth and development of their nations. We are, by this gesture therefore, encouraging other corporate organizations to pay serious attention to their CSR programmes, by giving back to their communities. It is extremely important that we make a deliberate and   collective effort to contribute in diverse ways towards the growth and development of our countries and communities. On behalf of the Board, Management and Staff of Ecobank, I congratulate all the beneficiaries and are hopeful that our support will go a long way to contributing to the Economic development of Ghana” Mr Sackey said.
