EC turf war: Charlotte Osei to face Parliament today

The embattled Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mrs Charlotte Osei will appear before Parliament today, Wednesday July 26, to answer questions on the total amount the EC collected from media personnel for covering the 2016 Election.

She is expected to brief the House on the money spent for the replacement for lost or misplaced voter’s identity (ID) cards and how the amounts had been applied and how much the commission spent on the exercise to replace lost Voter ID Cards.

Mrs Osei and her deputies have been trading accusations against each other in the media since last week, a development that has become cause for concerned for a large section of the public.

She’s currently under pressure following some workers of the Commission petitioning the president to investigate her for financial malfeasance and fraud and trigger her impeachment.

The Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, told journalist last week that due to the sensitive nature of the EC, Mrs Osei would not answer the questions on ID cards at the plenary. Rather, she would do that before the Committee of the Whole.

Subsequently, Leadership of Parliament will hold a seperate meeting with her to discuss the controversial issues that has gotten the electoral managment body boiling in the past few days.
