EC Deputy boss, others asked to proceed on leave over missing Gh¢480,000

The Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) is investigating three top officials of the Electoral Commission over Gh¢480,000 allegedly missing from the Commission’s Endowment Fund.

The money was allegedly withdrawn from the Endowment Fund of the election management body between 2012 and 2013 by the three officials during the tenure of retired EC Chair Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan and used for official business of the commission.

The three officials include the commission’s Deputy Chairperson F&A, Georgina Opoku Amankwah; Chief Accountant Kwaku Owusu Agyei-Larbi and its Finance Officer, Joseph Kwaku Asamoah.

The three were expected to have reimbursed the Fund before Dr Afari Gyan’s exit from office but did not do so until the current EC Chair, Mrs Osei took office.

The officials have been ordered to proceed on leave over the case, the Head of Public Affairs at the EC, Eric Kofi Dzakpaso, has said.
EOCO has informed the EC chairperson Charlotte Osei in a letter dated July 4, 2017, about the investigations.

Acting Executive Director of EOCO, ACP K. K Amoah (Rtd), in the letter, said that the three officials were “assisting in investigations”.
