Eastern Region Division Two League: Koforidua United breathtaking run in Zone III ended by Real Tigers

Koforidua United impressive run in the Eastern Regional Division Two League Zone III came to an end after losing 1-0 to Real Tigers at the Suhum Maxbees Park on Sunday.

The game saw over 500 supporters troop to the stadium to watch the league leaders, Koforidua United in action, due to their remarkable performances in the campaign.

Koforidua United indeed started the game brightly and thought they had opened the scoring after striker Bonsu header found the back of the net but the goal was ruled out for offside to the dismay of the supporters.

Despite the goal being disallowed, the Koforidua United regrouped and mounted incessant pressure on Real Tigers FC but squandered the numerous chances that came their way, with strikers Bonsu and Abubakar Rauf being the main culprits.

Real Tigers FC marksman Danlade Ibrahim became a thorn in the flesh of the defenders of Koforidua United as the game wore on and twice came close breaking the deadlock but skipper Ernest Rockson and Solomon Aluwa stood to the challenge as the first half ended in a stalemate.

In the second half, Real Tigers continued from where they left off and opened the scoring after goalkeeper Clifford Nartey failed to deal with a direct free-kick, and his attempt to make amends by using his leg to clear the ball was controversially whistled for an indirect free-kick, which Danlade Ibrahim rifled the ball into the roof of the net to give his the lead.

Koforidua United did not let the goal affect their beautiful ball possession style as they mounted incessant pressure on the home side. The Blue and Whites thought they had gotten the equalizer in the 87th minute after Yussif Wenneh scored from a goal mouth-melee situation but his effort was controversially flagged for offside.

The match ended 1-0 in favour of Real Tigers as Koforidua United’s 100% record in the league came to an end but still occupy top spot with 12 points from five games.
