EAST PhD Position in Urban Anthropology of Youth in Southeast Asia Scholarship Positions 2017 2018

EASt, the centre for East Asian Studies is happy to announce PhD Position in Urban Anthropology. The position is available for the applicants from all over the world to conduct research in one of the four countries (Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam)

The aim of the position is to enable applicants to embark on an independent career in academic stroke research.

EASt, the centre for East Asian Studies, is a research unit within the Maison des sciences humaines of the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB), Belgium.

Course Level: The position is available to pursue PhD programme.

Study Subject: The position is awarded in Urban Anthropology.

Scholarship Award: 500€ gross per year. The research Fellow will enjoy a monthly gross income of about 2900€ which corresponds to an average net income of about 1900€. Please note that a Fellow’s individual net income after Social Security Contributions can vary in light of their nationality, family status and antecedents

Scholarship can be taken in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam

Eligibility: Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Top-level graduate degree (Master or equivalent) providing access to PhD programmes in Anthropology or Sociology. The Master degree should be no older than 2 years old at the time of application.
  • There is no requirement on nationality but the candidate must settle in Brussels within two months after the beginning of the contract. Candidates from Southeast Asia are encouraged to apply.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is required.
    Knowledge, or willingness to learn French, is a plus.
    Speaking Lao, Thai, Khmer, Vietnamese or another relevant regional language is a strong point for the application. The research fellow is in any case expected to learn the national language during the first years of fieldwork.

Entrance Requirement: Applicants must have graduate degree (Master or equivalent).

English Language Requirement: Applicants must have proficiency in written and spoken English.
