Daniel Dubois is ready to help Wladimir Klitschko defeat Anthony Joshua in potential rematch

DANIEL DUBOIS is ready to help Wladimir Klitschko regain his world heavyweight titles from Anthony Joshua.

Londoner Dubois has made a massive impact since turning down a place on the GB team at the Rio Olympics and is already referred to as the new AJ after just four explosive bouts.

He has sparred with WBA and IBF world champion Joshua and there are rumours that he put the champ on his backside.

AJ is set to defend his titles in a rematch with Klitschko. Las Vegas is the preferred venue and November 11 a proposed date.

But Dubois does not care which AJ is in the opposite corner as his undefeated career gathers pace.

Dubois, who is 6ft  5in tall, takes on AJ Carter for the Southern Area title at the Copper Box Arena, London on September 16.

His trainer, Martin Bowers, said: “If Klitschko called us up we’d go and spar with him. To go and get that experience and keep working with top-grade fighters is what it’s all about.

“Joshua or Klitschko? whoever phones first, we go.”

Dubois gets a bit fidgety when he is asked about THAT sparring session with Joshua which took place long before AJ won his world titles.

DD believes what happens in the gym stays in the gym. But he admits on putting Joshua down: “It let me know I have power in both hands. Other than that I take it for what it is.”

Joshua won the world IBF heavyweight title in just his 16th professional bout, knocking out Charles Martin in the second round at London’s O2 Arena.

Dubois’ aim is to get to the top quicker than AJ and he said: “It certainly seems possible to get there quicker than him the way I’m going.

“If I keep winning and keep performing, I will definitely get there. It’s part of what is driving me on.

“It’s just carrying on that work ethic that was instilled in me from a very young age by my dad Dave and my family, and escalating to the top of the game.”

Hughie Fury, who faces WBO world champion Joseph Parker in Manchester in September has already called on Dubois’ services as a sparring partner and will do so again ahead of his world title bid.

Dubois knows that down the line Fury is another who could be staring at him from the opposite corner and he said: “We’re hoping to spar with Hughie again for the Parker fight.

“They’re down in London and his trainer Peter Fury says they’re going to pop into the gym.

“They made us really welcome and we had a good few rounds.

“Hughie has a chance, it’s 50-50, but Parker is a world champion who is looking to defend his title.

“He will come and give it his best shot.

“Somewhere along the line I might have to fight Hughie — that is a definite possibility.”

So too is a clash against Joshua as Dubois reaches for the stars.
